What?
Aeration is one of the most vital maintenance operations to be carried out on any turf area.
Aeration is a process that creates lots of holes in your lawn. It is carried out to help lawns by ventilating the soil, improving drainage and encouraging better root development. The machine does not just spike the ground, it also heaves and agitates the soil, fracturing its structure and facilitating the air/nutrient/moisture distribution. This process is a key factor in keeping lawns green and healthy.
Why?
The purpose behind all aeration techniques is to maintain or increase the proportion of pore space within the soil structure. Compaction of the root zone leads to water logging, a build up of unwanted thatch and a decline in the appearance of the lawn.
An open, healthy soil structure will warm more quickly in the spring promoting good root extension. This will enhance the grass plants ability to use the nutrients applied throughout the year, and also become more drought tolerant.
How?
At Willโs Norfolk Lawns we offer three aeration services. These being hollow-tine aeration, solid-tine aeration/spiking and fracture-tine aeration. We use professional aerators which creates lots of holes in your lawn, piercing the soil profile. The type of aeration that is best suited for your lawn will depend on the lawns and soils current condition.
